The EC457 Wiki: A modest and localized guide to new new media.

The goals for this wiki are:

1. Give everyone in the class a wiki experience. To accomplish that goal, you will need to post at least 3 original items and edit 3 items already started. You are welcome to do more of each; fewer is discouraged. Just like with Wikipedia, an entry can be stub before it gets developed, pages will be stronger if supported by secondary sources.
2. Build a knowledge base about new media and social media: define key terms, identify key rhetorical strategies for success, identify key ecology strategies, identify services.
3. Create a resource that can be useful for your essay / chapter, for your non-profit work, and for future projects.

I have seeded the wiki with a handful of pages and stubs, but students, you can add additional pages, and as noted above, you are required to edit others' pages.
As you work on entries to our wiki, feel free to draw on work you have already done. Jason, for example, had a list of suggestions for Twitter that he could reproduce (and tweak if necessary) for our wiki. Also share the knowledge you are building with your essay topics. If your topic doesn't fit easily into the pages I have started the wiki with, start your own page.

Finally, in order to get credit for your work, make sure you sign in to the wiki and do your writing and editing as a logged-in member of the wiki. This wiki requires you become a member before you can make any edits. If you are having difficulties logging in, make sure your account email matches the email address the membership request was sent to.

About
EC457 is English 457 "Electronic Communication @ NDSU". The course (as of spring 2012) introduces students to a variety of new media and social media tools and services, and in doing so, it moves pretty quickly through blogging, microblogging, social media, new media (video) and beyond. In order to capture some of the knowledge generated and practices employed, I (Kevin Brooks, professor) have created this wiki.
